ISRO projects are planned towards the design and development of space missions related to applications of national importance. The design and development of systems involved in these missions play an important role in achieving the objectives of the mission. And, as such Software is an integral part of such systems.
For the software development life cycle, ISRO software projects use ISRO Software Process Document (ISRO-SES-PD-100, Issue-1, October 2006) which is based on IEEE 12207 family of standards that prescribe a set of processes and related plans, procedures, guidelines and templates taking into consideration existing software practices in the centres of ISRO/DOS. It is applicable to all software activities in ISRO. Different categories of application specific software for spacecrafts, launch vehicles, scientific payloads and the associated ground equipments and facilities are developed.
