Atmosphere
The study of atmospheric sciences is an important program of the Centre. The activities carried out under the Atmosphere Sciences include:

Observing System Simulation Experiments (OSE & OSSE) for defining meteorological satellite sensors, as well as for cost-effective deployment of observations strategies
atm1
Developing geophysical parameter retrieval algorithms for atmospheric parameters, using both the physical and AI/ML based techniques from sensors on-board geostationary and polar orbiting satellites (e.g. Atmospheric vertical profiles of temperature & humidity, atmospheric winds, rainfall, fog, outgoing longwave radiation, upper tropospheric humidity, etc.)

atm2
Application of satellite data for understanding and modelling the weather and climate system, particularly extreme weather events, such as tropical cyclones, mesoscale convective storm, thunderstorm, cloudburst, heat/cold wave, etc.

atm3
Development of data assimilation system to assimilate the satellite observation in weather and climate models
atm4
Inter-calibration of satellites radiances to monitor stability and quality of satellite data for weather and climate applications
