D. K. Das
Shri D. K. Das born in 1961 at Sualkuchi, Assam, is a graduate in Electronics Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Banaras Hindu University (BHU) formerly known as IT, BHU.
He is a Distinguished Scientist and the Director of Space Applications Centre (SAC), Ahmedabad, a lead centre for design and development of space-borne instruments and applications for ISRO missions. He is a highly accomplished and renowned space Scientist and Engineer who has successfully led the development of over 30 communication and navigation payloads for ISRO.
He started his professional career at Space Applications Centre, ISRO in 1983 in the area of Communication & Navigation Satellite technology. He was instrumental in the establishment of state of the art AIT facility for Communication and Navigation payloads at SAC Bopal Campus, Ahmedabad.
As an Associate Programme Director (APrD) he has led many Communication Satellite Payload development Projects. The constellation of NavIC (erstwhile IRNSS) consisting of seven Navigation payloads was built and made operational under his leadership as Deputy Director, Satcom and Navigation Payload Area (SNPA). He was instrumental in conceiving the development of high throughput satellites including GSAT-11 and GSAT-19. Many State-of-the-Art technologies for SATCOM & Navigation were developed under his leadership.
Shri Das continued his excellence in the capacity of Associate Director, SAC with a flair towards systems approach and a persuasive leadership style from May 2016 to June 2018. Since July 2018, He is designated as Director, Space Applications Centre.
He is a recipient of ISRO-ASI award for the year 2010 for his contribution in the area of Spacecraft and related technologies. He is also a recipient of ISRO Merit Award for the year 2010 and ISRO Performance Excellence Award for the year 2015.
He is elected as Corresponding Member of International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) in 2019. He is a member of Space Communications and Navigation Committee (SCAN) of International Astronautical Federation (IAF). He is also designated as Chair of ‘Committee on Earth Observation Satellite’ (CEOS) for the year 2020
